5 Tips for a Healthy Halloween
It’s that time of year again-the ghouls, pumpkins, and witches are in full swing!
With spooky season upon us, we wanted to share a few helpful tips for you and your loved ones to have a safe and healthy Halloween that your smile will thank you for.
- It’s no secret that candy is typically filled with sugar-but the high sugar content isn’t the only thing to limit when it comes to sweets. Candy that is hard or stays in your mouth for a long time can cause chipped or cracked teeth when bitten.
- If you’re trick or treating with children, take a water bottle with you. Drinking water between snacking on candy can help wash away the sticky coating and debris left behind, protecting their teeth.
- In the days and weeks following Halloween, there will likely be a plethora of candy left out to snack on. During this time, try to limit sugary drinks like sodas and juices so that you aren’t double-dipping on sugar intake.
- When eating leftover candy, try to eat it close to mealtime. Your mouth produces excess saliva when you eat meals, which helps rinse away debris and neutralise acid.
- In the event of a dental emergency (cracked teeth from sweet treats are more common than you think), we’re here for you. Contact our team to get an appointment sooner rather than later to avoid a serious oral health issue.
